06/06/06 - After the successful release of their first album, AO finds themselves where so many bands have gone before; the brink of breaking up of the group.  Jeb had already moved to IN prior to the release of 18 To Enter..., and after a brief adjustment period was settling in nicely to his new family life. Jon and Greg had a couple of new tunes they were trying to piece together, while Jeb would send a song via email for them to listen to & decide if it should be on the new album.  It seemed like AO was in the beginning of their sophmoric slump.  Then things just got worse.

Greg announced, along with Byron (the recording/music engineer), that they both had taken jobs that were moving them to Gainesville. Jon was the last member left in PC, FL with Jeb still showing strong support thousands of miles away up north.  Plans were made to keep trying to record between here & G-ville, but we all know how the best-laid plans often end up.

It was during this time that AO was on an "unoffical hiatus".  Greg had moved & was preparing to get married & start a career in central FL.  Jeb continued to write & record music using his own equipment & Jon took on some side projects and layed down the drum tracks for a band that was called (at the time) Clothing Optional, but as of 2007 is now known as Worse Case Scenario.  AO would have probably been done had it not been for an event that happened in November 2006.

Jeb, as a surprise, flew down for Greg's wedding & thus marked the first time all 3 AO members were in the same room since the final live show during the first album release.  After this brief reunion, while Greg enjoyed his honeymoon, Jeb & Jon discussed ideas for another AO album while listening to a CD full of music that Jeb had been working on.  Jon agreed that there was enough material for a full disc, but their biggest hurdle was going to be recording, with the drummer in FL and the guitarist/singer in IN.

It is at this time we must briefly explain that the members of AO are in their early 30's, which means when they started recording music in their teens everything was still done analog (i.e. tapes, reel-to-reel and/or cassette).  15 years ago, recording the 2nd album wouldn't have even been feasible to us.

Since Jon records on Roland V-drums, the plan was whenever Byron would come to town, he would record drum tracks.  Then Byron would mix them & send to Jeb, who would in turn record guitar/vocals & send them back to Byron for final mixdown.  A tedious step, but luckily was avoided in April 2007 when Jon finally aquired his own digital recorder.

After a few days of trial/error, then finally reading the owner's manual, Jon feverishly started laying down drum tracks for the group of songs Jeb had basic recorded versions of.  As soon as Jon would finish drums for one track, Jeb would email another new song that he'd written.

In a matter of weeks, AO had gone from having a few songs to a multitude of material.  Jeb and Jon had to slow down & decide what material should go on the album.  Out of over 23 songs, 12 tracks were decided to be the next album.  Focus then shifted to tweaking those songs.

After a few weeks, things were going good, but there were pieces still missing from the overall picture.  One song Jon was working on (a track consisting of different drum samples) was taking longer than expected, and Jeb was also having frustration with another song as well.  Almost by accident, Jon on a whim gets an idea to replace his drum track with a track that samples audio from an obscure 1940s zombie movie.  Inspired by the idea of using some public domain audio, Jeb stumbles upon an archive of public domain news footage and suddenly those missing pieces were found and the 2nd album was born.

HOTBED OF INIQUITY, Adults Only's 2nd full length album, is an onslaught of guitar rock that makes you want to crank the stereo up to 11 and floor the gas pedal.  If 18 TO ENTER, 21 TO THINK showed off their musical diversity, HOTBED OF INIQUITY shows that Jon & Jeb can rock with some of the best, from early Sabbath to Pink Floyd.  And they don't even have to be in the same room (or state!) to kick out their jams.

HOTBED OF INIQUITY was released for online download Halloween 2007, with the CD package featuring FEDX artwork available Jan 2008.

ADULTS ONLY, now a 2-men operation, continue to record material for upcoming albums, and will continue to do so until the government forces them to stop.

cheers!
